Inside

If I let you inside
Into the dark places I hide
Would you love me more or despise my weakness
Would you see yourself in my desert of emptiness

What would you think of the futile fantasies I chase
With a longing and faithfulness nothing else can replace
No other dream my heart can keep
For the endless deep connection relentless I seek

To get that close, to breathe you in
Where heaven’s gates will let us in
All pretences gone only we remain
All defences dropped, no tears, no pain

But here’s a face I’ll wear for today
Fear holds me back so I’ll push you away
Chasing the dream I never truly believe
Too afraid to be hurt, too afraid to receive
