The sun is cautious as it splits the night
Slowly, slowly offering its light
Cloaking our world in orange flood
Touching my face, warming my blood
The sand is cold, to the East I gaze
Watching the lift of the Ocean’s haze
Feeling her tongue lick at my feet
Hypnotized by her primeval beat
The source of life for a billion years
Her substance drawn from cosmic tears
She rocks us now in precarious embrace
Her movements directed from outer space
I dive below, ten, fifteen down
Quiet and still, a ghost town
I settle gently on the ocean bed
Blue all around, the death of red
I feel the pod as they come near
Their talk and chatter oh so clear
I feel they know they know it’s us
If they could I know they’ll cuss!
“It’s you yes you the human race
It’s you that kills our place.
Your intelligence we admire
But the consequence we do not desire!
We hope it’s not too late
For you to fix this sorry state!!
Must we teach you again like pagans past
Teach you how to make the Earth last?!!”
I break surface, touching the sun
Oh my god what have we done?!
