What’s Real?

Is happiness found outside
Or does one find it inside
Is happiness found anywhere at all
I’ve never glimpsed it outside
Now and then I’ve felt it inside
Then it’s gone and I can’t find the door

Moments of pure pleasure
Making love with one you treasure
But somehow it never seems to last
Too soon the passions over
And you wake up stone cold sober
Surrounded by the pieces of the past

Some time out on your own
Far away and all alone
Might help you feel a little less forlorn
But as the sun is setting
On the desert sands you’re fretting
The emptiness was there when you were born

The ego’s an illusion
Resulting in confusion
As to who we are and why we’re really here
The truth is we’re connected
And we are all affected
By the energy of thoughts of love and fear

If we’re searching for illusions
Then fear is the conclusion
But the world we make is like the morning mist
We’re here to learn the lesson
That what’s real cannot be threatened
And what isn’t real does simply not exist
