Note: Wakinyan the Lakota word for a Thunderbird, from kinyan meaning ‘winged ‘and wakin meaning sacred.
. Phoenix of Egyptian mythology is related to the Thunderbird.
The Phoenix is used in literature to symbolize death and resurrection.
White Feather
Drawn I am by this strange yet familiar sound.
The drum beat resonating through the ground.
Somehow connected to the beat of my heart and the pulse of the earth.
The message carried on the southern wind is Gaia is crying for our rebirth.
This night of black velvet so dark and intense.
Smell on the air reminiscent of incense.
It is sage and sweet grass purifying and protective herbs that are burning.
Deep inside me is a call..…a longing……a yearning.
Voice in my head loud and clear as the breath I inhale.
I need to find the existence of truth behind the veil.
Ghostly shimmering glow floating in crystalline depths in my moonstone.
Feeling the presentence of others …….I am not alone.
Intrigued I continue down the pathway without care or caution.
I stumble into a clearing; in the centre is a bonfire of inarticulate proportion.
A tribe drum and dance with heart, spirit and inhibitions laid naked.
They move in a circle a symbol of earth where all living things are equal and sacred.
There is a totem of Wakinyan a mystical creature…..She is a Thunderbird.
Legend has it movement of her huge wings causes thunder in every corner of the universe can be heard.
She must be Angel to these people, as she carries messages from the Great Spirit and she brings light.
I stand here hanging on the edge..Transfixed on this midsummer night.
Clouds gather over head in a conference of storm.
Unperturbed the tribe their sacred ritual continue to perform.
The Shaman dressed as a bird adorned with crystal and feather.
He is calling the spirits with a rattle made of seeds in raw hide leather.
I now see many people round the edge of the clearing I am not the only stranger witness to this sight.
It’s a gathering...The Shaman is also calling all the tribes together to heed urgent warning of our earth’s plight.
“We are all connected and we can heal and bring back wholeness to our beautiful planet, if we stand together.
“The way out is in, we will always come back to our centre”…says the Shaman White Feather.
Stepping out of the shadows I join yje rhythmic dance.
Not long before I fall into an asphyxiating trance.
I rise up in a spiral of absolute delight.
Wrapped in a love so captive, and warm reassuring light.
Breathless I emerge phoenix- like having my higher mind connection with soul.
Like a winged dragon of ultimate wisdom complete and whole.
I have slain my ego..Where fear and restriction reside.
Now connected to the sacred light of my spirit inside.
